Default hypertech handheld question

I have someone who is offering me a hypertech programmer for my 98 formula. He doesn't know if it is locked or not because it came with the car and he has never used it. If it is locked, how can I unlock it?

If it came with his car and he still has the car, he could hook it up and see if it gives him the option to return the car to the factory tune. If it is locked and this isn't an option I think you would have to send it back to hypertech and pay to have it unlocked.

FWIW you can't really do much with it. If your an A4 you can firm up shifts and tweak shift points a little, or adjust for a gear swap. And you can alter fan settings for a 160 thermostat. But that is about all they are good for.
