Default Im done......Yaaaaaaaay

Well, I wrapped up my WOT throttle tuning today. Its been tough with all the rain here in Ohio. Thanks to a friend of mine that helped me long distance. Without him I would have been lost. Owning HP Tuners was like having a helicopter and no flight experience. Yes, I had a hell of a time understanding all the tables. He explained the difference between interpolate, smoothing and put up with all kinds of questions.
Im commanding 12.8

Ordered Yella terras, bought a dial indicator, checking springs and push rod length checker.

Yesterdays AFR. 12.30's

Todays AFR 12.74

MAF airflow vs. output frequency got it + - under 2 , several part throttle and WOT runs.

I agree, however, if it ain't broke...don't fix it. The VE tables do not do much at all really if the MAF is working fine. If something happens to the MAF, you will have to rely on the VE until you can replace it so this is of course a good reason to have it at least somewhat correct... since your mods are not on the extreme side, I really wouldn't worry about it until you get more comfortable tuning and then do it one weekend just for fun.

Hmm, tuning VE is just the same process as tuning the MAF. It would take all of 30 minutes to get it close.

True, but enjoy the car! I'd drive the snot out of it and have fun. This weekend do some VE tuning if you want.

My street tune netted me an 11.89 @ 117.55 mph 1.79 60' 1200' I would have to be taught how to tune the VE tables. When I went to the track yesterday I spun off the line and roasted the tires when it would shift into second. I'm betting I could dip into sub 11.50 if it would hook.
Tuning the VE tables is in case the MAF fails, correct? I made a few tunes for the track commanding different AFR but didnt get a chance to try them out. It was opening day and it started to get really busy. On a happy note, my times killed most that I saw. Love the new Challengers but my god they are slow!

Get that 60' down and you'll be good. Congrats on the DIY tune. I'm the same as you except opposite. I can "tune" the VE, but I don't have a MAF so I never learned anything about it.

The PCM references the VE below 4000 (or whatever RPM you have the dynamic airflow disable set to) for some fueling calculations. So tuning would offer some benefit over part throttle driving, though it may not be noticeable. It also gives you the option to trash the MAF all together.
