I think you should try to make it work with the MAF, with a
solid speed density fit-up below it. If the MAF is bugging
then you can call it a loss but if it works then it works.
Not a bad thing if you live in a place where outside temp
swings a hundred degrees season to season. The temp
dimension is one thing that seems to bug speed density
only guys.

I run SD, but only because I still have the 2-bar setup from the previous FI combo. For a naturally aspirated motor, MAF is more friendly for a street car.

Just a note - You can adjust paramets for IAT vs ECT to minimize fueling shifts due to outside temperature changes (like from summer to winter). The PCM stock program heavily favors IAT's. By equalizing it to ECT's it mitigates temp probs that people fault SD tunes for....so don't let that solely sway your decision.

It doesn't work on the 2000 operating system only 01-02. If you have a wideband in your car and tune all the time than stay its really up to you. You have tuning software so play around with it and see what you like. I relocated my IAT sensor infront of my wiper fluid holder and I do not have the nasty AFR swings like before. If you can get your car to idle right and not buck and surge with the maf I'd run open loop maf with a dialed in VE table for those quick throttle transitions. As far as I'm concerned closed loop is only for emissions and people who do not have a wideband and tuning software. Why would you want your engine constantly adding and subtracting fuel to stay around stoich 14.68? I get better mileage staying at a constant 14.7 instead of bouncing back and forth 14.6-14.8.

No one is talking about open loop, but unless you had a particular reason to get rid of the O2s why would you. It's not a big deal to retune the car everyonce in a while, but why do it if you don't have to. And technically you can tune the O2 sensors to run lean and get even better gas mileage.

CLSD > OLMAF without specific reason.

I have done this in a few NA cars... People can scold but it's hard to argue with results, and it works well

It doesn't bug those of us who know how to tune SD one bit. I live in New England, and I drive my car 365 days a year...I've driven in -10 degree weather...snow...you name it...and the hottest I've seen since switching to SD has been 95 degrees...I'm sure I'll see hotter a few times this summer.

My car is in closed loop, and my fuel trims are the same in any weather...and for those saying the 2000 OS doesn't allow this correction properly...mine's a 2000 .

Where is the option for OLSD? Best option by far.. If you are capable of doing it properly.
