Default While driving, car shut off then immediately restarted?

So, this happened two times today. The only thing I see being related is I cleaned up under the hood for the car show last weekend, but had no problems until this weekend.

Short and sweet, the car just shuts off and will restart when going down the street. Happened two times today on two separate drives. Anyone had this issue? It is not just the motor shutting down, it acts like I turned the key off and restarted the car. All my gauges and lights reset like I am firing it up.

The only thing I can think of is I may have a bad fuse or relay (from washing under the hood) that is causing power to cycle or I have a bad ignition switch.

Ideas?

[Brake] C0240 - (History)
[Brake] C0181 - (Current)
[Restraints] U1000 - Class 2 Communication Malfunction (History) (Immature)
[Restraints] U1096 - Loss of Communications with IPC (History) (Immature)

This is all that is in the DTC history, which is irrelevant I think.

Hey Mike,

I have had this happen on several cars over the years... usually it's a short to ground somewhere. If it never blows a fuse, it may be a heavy cable with no fuse such as the starter. A few of them have been a PITA to track down but they all had a solid cause.

Thanks Steve. I think I may have found it. Loose connection at the fuse block under the hood. Nut was tight but for some reason the bottom main power wire was loose. I think that could cause the issue, what do you think?

I've had this happen a few times... it turned out to be a bad ground eyelet at the back of the head.

I had the same problem last year. For me that 'nut' was a little loose, causing havok with my electrical. Some of the wires there were starting to heat up and burn through.

I cleaned all the wires up, squeezed that nut down into place with a little lock-tite.

No more problems since.

A friend of mine has the same thing happen in his 408 Camaro. Everytime you hammer it the car completely dies but it will start back up. Same issue all the gages and everything just shut off. He thinks its the fuel pump but I told him even if the fuel pump quit the lights should still stay on. I will have him check some of these suggest ideas. Good thread guys and keep the ideas coming. Oh he told me someone did some rewiring on one of the o2 sensors, would this cause any issues?

Well drove the car today and the issue seems to be OK. I guess this would explain why I randomly blew my power accessory fuse at the track. Prob melted a wire and burnt through to ground.

Now I have a new problem, go figure.....

This is now happening to me as well. My question is Can this happen because of a cracked cylinder head?
This only happened after my cylinder head is cracked. I found out my cylinder head being cracked because I brought the car to a mechanic to figure out why the car is turning off and the mechanic discovered the head cracked.
