OBD1 code scanning

OBD1 code scanning I got me a cable, and would like to know what programs are available or have been used by any of you guys here.
I tried running a program that was installed on the CD that came with the cable (wOBD) and I tried to read codes, and all I got was some check ignition on code every all the time. Everytime that came up, it registered it as a code. But I got no log out of it.
I am also getting Tunercats soon, does it scan too? I tried installing FreeScan on my new laptop, and it won't even start up because of Vista being the crap that it is.
