speedometer signal help

97 model lt1 v8 instrument cluster.
what signal does the speedo need to see?
i know its a 4000ppm rating (4 pulse)
is it a sine wave or a square wave signal comming from the ECM?

I believe it is a square wave coming from the PCM.
