Default Do I have to run knock sensors?

So I have a ls2 block in my 2000 camaro. I never bothered to relocate my knock sensors as I have always ran it as a all motor with a small shot on it. But now I'm putting a procharger on the car. My question is this. Is it absolutely neccesary to have knock sensors? I know I should definately have them and wish I would have done the taping for them when the motor was out of the car, but didn't.

So if I do absolutely need them is it possible to install them without pulling the headers?

it is always a good idea to run knock sensors. it does not matter if your motor is na, sprayed or FI.

there i no need for taping anything, the holes for the knock sensors are already there.
there are two of them in the valley (under the intake manifold)

Actually if its an ls2 block like the op said the knock sensore should be on the side of the block so youd need an extension harness.

Just like red bird said...ls2 block. Have to tap side of block and run extension harness.

Do you have to?- Nope

BUT it has to be tuned right. I unplug the knock sensors in all my personal cars, even my stock motor vette which ran 14lbs of boost.I hate false knock.

Thank you slowhawk! So as long as I have someone who knows what they're doing I should be good. What will I look for in the tune? LOW timing, and 11-1 - 11-5 on the afr?

Each motor is different so you can't tell on timing till your on the dyno.We have probly 8 Supercharged LS3 418's out there without knock sensors. The WOT timing was set on the load dyno.

So if you just don't have them hooked up will you still have the SES light on?

maynard89, if you're tuning the car anyways, and you want them unhooked, you can also turn off the codes for them and then the SES light won't turn on.
