should i use predator on a tunned ecm
I bought a used predator u7193 planning on using too tweak shift points and tune. My ecm has already had a mail order tune with vats, rear o2 removed yata yata yata. My question is can i modify things without messing things up that have already been done.

What you can do is read the current tune and save it to your predator. Then from there you can adjust whatever parameters the tuner lets you change. I don't think stuff like shift points can be changed.
What you can do is after you download that tune to your handheld, upload it to your computer and email it to a tuner that can make those adjustments for you using the diablosport software. Then you load it back to the handheld and back on your car.

The Predator will allow you to modify the 'stock' tune once it saves that file in its memory.
It will let you modify shift points, rev and speed limits, and even WOT fueling and spark, and more.

The GM Predators will read anything off the PCM (unless it is locked, obviously).

correct... whatever tune is currently on your pcm, the predator will read it and save it as the stock "original backup"... whether it's really a stock GM tune or not... whatever is on there now, will be saved as the stock/original backup tune...

has anyone tried this? i called diablo and they said i had too have the stock tune reinstalled and go from there. the stock tune would reinstall vats, rear o2s and things i don't need for a car with a engine swap. i didn't want too redo the whole tune just tweak what i have.

The Predator will do EVERYTHING he has asked.
It seems I somehow confused him with nomenclature, but yes, what you asked will work.
Period.
GM Predators will read ANYTHING off of a GM PCM unless the tune is locked.
It will allow you to modify that tune to your liking.
When you restore the 'stock tune' back to the car, it is not some generic stock tune with VATS and whatnot, it is what it READ from your car initially.
I have flashed dozens of cars with a Predator that were already tuned with HPt or EFIlive, no biggie.

Mike, I buy no means meant too dis DIABLOSPORTS, but i did call and was told that i had too start with the stock tune and your first post had 'stock' in parentheses. So i wasn't sure if in fact i couldn't do what i wanted or if this was a disclaimer, so i was asking if anyone had modified a previously tuned ecm. Thanks for your help and your time.
