Timing under WOT ??? help!
I am trying to figure out what the best timing for WOT on a 2001 Trans Am. Right now the timing is 18 to 19 degrees between 4000 and 6500 RPM. Also the knock sensor is saying 3.95 maximum knock? This is all being seen with a diablo sport tuner using the live time data.

I thought that might be the case... whenever you get those codes, the car has ceased to look at the knock sensors because of an issue with them. Because of that, to protect the car, whenever heavy throttle is applied (PE), the car will pull the max amount of timing that it is allowed to remove. In PE, this is 4 deg on an F-body.
Fix your knock sensor(s) and/or pigtail(s).

On a recent post for vehicles that have the LS6 intake, they do not like more than 25 degrees of spark advance at WOT. Since yours is a 2001 (no LS6 intake?) try ~27-28 degrees at WOT (on a dyno).
Hey, that is just a guess on my part. A dyno will reveal the truth. You may have to alter the WOT AFR slightly for street, but once you get the KR sensors fixed, it will be easier to do WOT tuning and determine your ideal spark and AFR.

The stock program on my 99 C5 was pretty much 28 at WOT.
I had a high compression motor that would only take 24 max.
Now I have an LS3 that likes 29. Every motor is slightly different, depending on a lot of factors, including the outside air temperature, and what the real octane number is on the gas in your tank. I keep adding timing and scanning until I see some knock, then back off a degree or two. Double check it on a hot day, it may knock then.

ive never really had any luck with knock sensors, seems i always get some kind of false knock, especially on FI cars. If you have the car on the dyno it WILL stop gaining power with timing before it starts detonating, as long as your making solid power gains at whatever part of the RPM range your adding timing keep adding timing.
It is possible that one or two cylinders (say 7 and 8) are more prone to detonation under given conditions than the rest, and in the case that the other six are still timing hungry you can still see an over all increase in power dispute the two cylinders being on the verge of detonation. for this reason i like to back off a touch after peak power is found.

Thats a lot of lead you guys are suggesting on stock cammed engines I have never seen any more power going that high after about 22 they stop makin power. Are you purely tuning to knock retard? or actually measuring the output, Especially on a LS3 those suckers like less timing then all of em(stock cam)

Running 28* here. i even got away with running 28* when my timing tricker mod failed to pull 4 degrees on the 100shot a year ago lol. i wouldnt recommend running 28* with nitrous though
