Local tech saying VATS resistor bypass works without BCM??
Im having trouble finding someone locally to get VATS out of my ECM so my project will run and i can get it out of the shop tomorrow or Wed. I called a local specialist and he told me he will come and do the resistor mod. He said he has the source code from GM? I was under the impression that mod was for people who still had the BCM in their cars? I am not using the BCM. My powertrain and harness is a 2004 GTO setup which i thought was a serial data line that could not be hacked into by a resistor or any of the bypass modules on ebay? Am i miss informed? I don't really want to pay for this guy to come out for a job he may end up not being able to do.

The resistor will not work for you. The GTO uses the key fob which transmits BCM,then to the PIM , Then to the PCM. No other GM vehicle uses this type of system. I am assuming that you are only using the engine harness and no other modules at all. I think your only options are to either get a tuner to tune the VTD out of the PCM so it doesnt look for it OR you can Probably get a PCM from a diff type of car and you may have to change PCM connectors to make it work. I would go with the tuner method.

Excuse my ignorance to the acronyms, but by PCM are you referring to the Engine Control Module?

I am using the engine harness, but it also has a Powertrain Interface Module plugged into it and a Throttle Controller - both mounted together. I wasn't sure what to do with these so i just left them plugged into the harness.

The BCM controls the starter rely and sends a signal to the PCM so that it enables the fuel pump relay.
As long as everything's wired right (BCM & PCM not controlling relays) you shouldn't have a problem.
There are tables in the OS that define the type of anti theft system the vehicle uses and
whether or not the vehicle is fitted with column lock anti-theft system.
