Default VATS issue

UPDATE: check last post

ok so im having problem with the vats (im assuming), its the usual, car cranks, runs for 3 seconds, and shuts off. pump continues to run after and car dies. when you turn the on the security light comes on and goes off like normal, when you turn the car over though its solid. ive had the vats turned off in the pcm and done the resistor mod on the two white wires under the steering column. WHAT NEXT??? im stumped

From what I understand the VATS / BCM controls the fuel injectors. And if the key is not recognized the fuel injectors shut off after three seconds. Maybe someone knows more?

If it cranks, the BCM is reconizing the key, unless the crank circuit is bypassed.
Are you sure the VATS is either set for PWM or off?

yea, for good measure i even pulled the pcm again and had the tuner look at it....we re-flashed it again with a different tune from another a4, then turned the VATS off. same thing happened.

im beginning to wonder if its not a fuel problem? its firing so could it possibly be that the fuel pump is priming but not running?

If it starts and dies after a couple of seconds, it is VATS.
What PCM/ECM and OS are you using

all stock, nothing has been changed after the swap, other than the pcm being flashed for the a4 and vats being turned off

Does it die quickly (like an engine being turned off) or does it stumble and cough and sputter as it dies? If it's quickly, it's possible that it IS still a VATS issue and your tuner might be making a mistake...if it's running great for a few seconds, then slowly sputtering and so on, it's probably a fuel pressure (or oil pressure sending unit) issue.

VATS will disable the starter in a 4th gen regardless of the PCM UNLESS the circuit has been bypassed at the relay in the engine bay...which is very common, or by a resistor somewhere before the BCM, but the resistor if done properly (with the correct resistance) would have also gotten rid of the security light on the dash.

well i got the car running and driving. its at the tuner now, getting ready to pick it up in a couple hours. turned out to be a loose wire in the pcm from the harness adaptor. everything works great and no more problems
