One other follow up question... If I have a digital shift light with a GMR pickup, can i feed the light straight from the digital tach signal from the PCM or am i stuck with using the GMR pickup?

yes, there's a cam sensor. But the Tach signal is generated based of the crank signal.
You can feed the tach signal directly to the light. Depending on the year and application, the PCM signal can be 0 to 5V or 0 to 12V square wave signal. Some lights don't always like the 5V signal.
Which light do you have?
