Default idle tunning timing

I was just curious. I got to thinking again ;( I have 413cid ls2 and well it gets nasty hot at an idle. 245 degs or so. I know its a 100 outside and i still have a stock cooling system. I still kinda new to tunning. think its possable i am running to little or to much timing at idle and thats effecting my coolent temps some? What would you sujest i should try running? I know when my iat get hot and it starts to pull timing i start to get more and more surge. I have a 238/242 604/610 cam.

If its too retarded it will build heat. I ussually run 18-22 at idle. 245 imo is way too high. Id seal up every nook an cranny to get more air flow. Make sure you have the rubber flappers on your fans, remove them and put a soft seal at the edge al the way around to seal them to the rad. Build block off plates (cardboard works) out by the head lights, so all air entering the front end has to find its way through the rad. Put a new air dam underneath, and look into new fans. I ussaully get some from livernois, but I ve seen the oem fans run slow, just replace them and get a lot better air flow. If you have a ram air, ss hood make sure the hole is cut and remove the hood seal at the rear of the hood.

Im in vegas, I know heat.

e85 will help too....

oh yea, distilled water straight is better then coolant.......when winter rolls around, drain some and ad antifreeze...then go back to straight distilled in the spring.
