Clarification- 98 to 01 PCM Swap -Fuel Segment Q
Hey everybody,
Need clarification on the 98 to 01 PCM swap
1. I understand that you need to repin it.
2. 98 has a 3 wire coolant sensor but 01 has two wire, (No problem, still compatible with swap)
3. Fuel gauge issues will occur (No problem, going aftermarket gauges/sender)
4. 98 and 01 both have 28lb/hr injectors (Good)
5. Vats, EGR,AIR,Rear O2's will be disabled/deleted.
Question- Can I swap in the 01 pcm, with only disabled vats, egr, rear o2 parameters, without the fuel segment swap, and still have the car run normally?
I thought the fuel segment "swap" will fix only the gauge and that is it.
Or does the fuel segment "swap" swap the tables from the 01 camshaft settings to the 98 camshaft settings?
If I don't swap the fuel segment, will it prevent the car from running at all/run smoothly?
-I have no PCM tuning experience at all.
Thanks

The segment swap (unless you are moving to a 4l80 and referring to that) is just to correct the fuel level gauge; nothing else.

Thanks guys,
Answered my questions perfectly
I forgot another question:
So other than a repin and vats/egr/air delete
the swap is Plug and Play, no other parameters to modify?

Bump for question:
Will only disabling VATS/EGR/ Rear O2 in 441 PCM give my vehicle the ability to run correctly (stock)?
I ask this because in only two references I hear about swapping "tables" not segments
Every other thread I read about the "tuning" only talks about the segment swap, but that is irrelevant for my application.
I place so much emphasis on this question since its the difference of almost $700 dollars. If I have to swap tables then I will buy HPtuners.
I chose to buy HPtuners rather than do a mail order service, since I want to learn about PCM tuning (Knowledge is power right?)
Or spend $150 for a PCM that already has deleted EGR VATS AIR and rear O2. (And learn about tuning later when I have the cash)
Thanks
If I buy the 150 dollar PCM and it doesn't start, then I would "lose" $75.
Since a stock PCM without any modifications are 75 dollars.
Yes I am penny pinching/overthinking, being a highschooler that makes minimum wage forces you to.

1.https://ls1tech.com/forums/pcm-diagn...p-98-99-a.html
Post Number 20 "You will need a 0411 pcm with the fuel segment swapped into it, and the tables adjusted."

2. http://www.chipsbyal.com/convert98/ Indirectly stating through "fuel system parameters"
