Default 2001-2002 PCM swap for 1998?

I have a 98 z28 I was told that getting a 2001-2002 ECM would be a good choice because you can do more with them considering I have HP Tuners. And from what I understand all I need is the unit and it is just plug and play. Is it that easy or is there some wiring differences? Is this a good choice please voice your opinion thanks.

You will have fuel gauge issues, but JET DST can fix it

you also have to switch some pins around unless you are getting a whole new wire harness which might then be more trouble than its worth. Depending on what you're doing you should be fine with the 98 pcm. many people use them and i have had no troubles with tuning mine. There is just now 1bar SD and no option for RTT through HP tuners. So it depends on your goals.

I know that in most tuners you can change the fuel maps relative to rpm vs tps. is there that option with hp tuners or something close enough? i am new to tuning on hp so all the help would be great. I have been looking at the hp tuners forums but i not everything is properly explained in my opinion. if someone can explain or send links that would be great thnx

Its not that easy, you can not just plug in a 99-02 pcm in a 98. You have to have the harness re-pinned which requires moving almost every wire from the blue plug to the red plug wire by wire in very basic terms.
