I had the Knock Retard removed from my PCM in my first MTI heads/cam setup. Jayson at MTI recommended that I not have it removed, but stupid me removed it anyway. Having it removed was the reason for my 80% leakdown results and chunks missing from my ringlands on pistons 3 & 5. I'll never make that mistake again. See the pictures:

BIG HP setups you have to can KR.
Big nitrous motors you have to can KR
Anybody who runs solid motor mounts you have to can KR.
Anybody who is making in excess of 650-700 HP should have thier KR taken out, because it IS NOT going to save your motor. All it is going to do is slow you down at the track.
I have removed the KR on quite a few vehicles. I don't recommend it for normal street setups, but its not like the car is going to spontaneously explode if it is removed. I have also pulled it on several 98's with the dreaded false KR problem when specifically asked.

I removed it because the sensors were shot (got water in them). I was going to replace them but now that I am doing solid motor mounts I won't be able to use them anyways. I just tune the car to not knock (a little less that 100% advance) and always run the best gas I can (have never had a problem).

I just found it rather disturbing that the H/C cars had this deleted without the customer's knowing.Timing was set to 30 and 32 degree's and when we dyno'd the A/F was over 13-1 and could here pinging (no timing being retarded)
So,just seeing how many people actually do this..

I have reduced the Max KR a bit (from 8 to 5) and decreased the KR sensitivity 10% around a troublesome RPM range. Made these changes mainly to make tuning A/F less confusing. Changing the max KR to a different value in each table lets me know which table is being referenced when KR is applied. I have no plans to completely disable the KR system.
