Default TunerCATS issue with Read/Programming

Hi guys,

I have been trying to get TunerCATS to work for my application. I currently have 2 1995 B-Body PCMs, and I intend on reflashing one of them so it will have an M6 F-body tune (also 1995).

However, when i patch into my PCM, i get the error:

"Invalid Response from PCM"

This happens about 3/4 of the way through reading the PCM. I am using a cable purchased from ALDL cables.

has anyone else had this issue? I have followed all the guidelines set up by TunerCATS -- grounded engine, fresh battery, all programs on computer turned off, disabled internet etc. But still no dice.

I can read the VIN number information -- so i know the cable is working. Any ideas?

The car is a 1984 Jaguar XJ6, with a 1994 Camaro Z28/T56... The harness is from a 1996 Impala SS, but the pin-outs for the OBD connector are the same...

Put a trickle charger on it while reading/flashing. If that doesn't work, you'll have to rig up a bench harness and do them out of the car.

I thought you were supposed to leave off any charger because the ranges are so narrow?

Where could I find instructions on how to build a bench harness? That sounds like a good idea...

Try a booster pack instead of a charger then the voltage won't be too high. I think I get that error sometimes if I hit the OK button too soon after turning the key to on.

.
The GM service manual tells you to put a charger on it, when flashing, if the battery is low

I flashed a couple today and both I had a charger on. I used to never do that but if you are using the right charger you will be ok.

I have had a few cars I had to hook a battery charger or the flash failed. That was with LS1 and LT1. They cranked and started good but the PCM voltage was low somehow.

With 94-95 PCM's you have to be very careful, because everytime you flash the PCM's memory is completely erased. If the flash proccess fails you can brick it.

Any battery charger is good, just set it at low Amp and you're good to go.

thanks guys for the suggestion -- i've also read that different settings for the COM port should be set -- baud rate higher, hardware buffer on, FIFA buffers on max. I'll try again -- hopefully i didn't brick my PCM.
