Default How to tune ATI @ 5psi on stock 98 /w no ls1edit

Alright..im helping my buddy install a ATI Procharger kit on his 98 TA tonight. I wont have any problems installing the kit etc as ive done a million blower kits on other cars..but previously we always just sent out the computer to get tuned (ron zimmer, ed wright etc).

We dont have the luxury of that on this car so i need to know what i can do to tune this setup that is pullied to 5 PSI with no ls1edit or diablo predator.

All he has is a MAF translator and I can stick a resistor in the IAT to make it pull some timing.

Any tips? ideas??

do you have any kind of a scan tool? fuel and timing are obviously your two biggest issues. you seem to be on track for the timing and the knock sensors will chime in if they hear any gremlins in there. you may be able to trick it into more fuel with the MAF translator at the cost of idle issues or use the FMU to add fuel. just watch your injector duty cycle. at 5psi you shouldn't have many issues anyway.

hobbes switches are nice to trigger events (like resistance to IAT) when you are at boost.

Ok, well i dont have an FMU on this setup.

I believe the computer should compensate correctly for the fuel @ 5 psi correct?

I mean i can open a nitrous bottle with 150 hp shot to the maf and the computer hits the fuel correctly..so there should be no problem with fueling correct?

So is this going to work with 5 psi with no tuning except a maf translator?

I have a Superchips Tuner I used on my '98 Trans Am before buying Ls1-Edit.

the superchips tuner, has calibration for 38# injectors too.

i don't know if the maf will calibrate correctly for a 5# blower, without larger injectors to support the fuelneeds.

i would say that with that low amount of boost, it should compensate for fuel ok. you are going to use a wet NOS kit right? i would definately keep an eye on your injector P/W for sure and read your plugs, especially #7.

Why would you get involved with a potential disaster? You want him to have a problem and when poeple inevitably ask where he did it, Jim's name will pop up somewhere...guilty or not!

Is there any issues with timing etc for the 5 psi?[/QUOTE]there will be no real way to know for sure until you run it. is it intercooled? if so, that will help a bit. if the motor is relatively stock, i still don't think you will have any issues. like i said, you NEED a scan tool of some sort or you will never know, that is unless something breaks. change the plugs to a lower heat range and small gap too. oh yea, what kind of tuning does the computer have in it now?

You could use the MAF translator for added fueling and get a nitrous timing tricker for the timing. You need to pull timing even at 5psi and you also need to find some way to increase the fuel rate at WOT or you won`t last two dyno pulls.

stock injectors, no fmu, and stock timing will equal kabooom!

Long ago before ls1-edit came out I was on the ragged edge with a maf translator, 30# injectors, the fmu, the inline pump and an IAT sensor resistor to get it to pull a little timing. all this on 92 octane. 5psi

If your just slapping this on a stock fuel system vehicle with no tuning kiss that engine goodbye.
