Default Tuning with a netbook or with a laptop?

i am planning on buying HP tuners and a laptop or a netbook so that i can tune my own car. I was wondering if any of you guys use a netbook for tuning? What are the pros and cons on using either? Thanks.

I'm using a $150 latitude d420...very solid build and small enough for totting around.

Though I wouldn't want to go any smaller than the 12" screen it has.

What kind of netbook do you have? Do you run into problems with the screen being to small?

I prefer my laptop to be honest. Never used a netbook for tuning and it would likely work fine but I'm sure the screen resolution would eventually get on my nerves.

I've messed around with both but currently just use the netbook. I like how it's more maneuverable while you're in the car but since the screen is smaller having to scroll can get annoying while messing with certain charts.

I also use a netbook. Its a 10.1 ACER and it works well. I love how portable it is and I have one with the 6 cell battery on it so I get like 7-8 hours of battery life which is an entire day of track use of logging and tweaking without recharging.

I hate my old lady's acer netbook. Too freakin small. I would only tune on it if I had to.

Netbook is convenient, but screen resolution is too low.

I'd get a new laptop. They can be had for $300-$400 and would be adequate for hptuners and all other general computing needs.

You could go the used route, but more than likely you'll spend at least $200, and it will probably need at least a new battery to make it reliable. In the end, you'd be better off buying a new one.

Example: http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/sh...ABA&catLevel=2

Same resolution as the one above, but a larger screen (but it has less memory)

I've been contemplating the same issue. I tune 3 Harleys with Powercommander V's and currently use a Dell D620 (for work too) and would like to have something smaller (and dedicated for tuning) that I can mount on the bars so I can datalog(LM2) pull over and make adjustments. I'm also about to buy HP tuners pro for use on a couple of my cars.

Just talked to a computer geek buddy of mine, he has a d420 with xp that is fresh w/1.7 processor and 2g memory that I think i'll buy. He said he would put windows 7 on it but thought that it would be faster with xp. Have any of you guys compared the hptuners on xp versus windows 7?

I would just put XP on it. HPtuners runs great on Win XP and I can't think of any reason why it would be better on Win 7. An older computer like that will run Win xp better as you said already.

I'd go with win7. It definitely boots and comes out of sleep much faster than XP. Application launching seems faster.

XP is going to be dead soon, but in the end, neither is the wrong choice to make HPTuners work.

I prefer win 7 and we are updating all of our development pc's for win 7 now for as well as XP did win 7 is a welcomed sight.

I picked up a new 17" laptop for $399 recently and it works just fine, in fact more battery life than my work lenovo so I'm happy
