Default Do I have to get a tune?

I recently put a LQ4 in my Chevelle and need to know if I need a tune to safely drive it....or will I hurt the motor if I don't get it tuned. I am running a MAF, IAT, and O2 sensors so shouldn't it tune itself in some respects? I plan on tuning it in the future, but just want to drive it a little until I get the money. Here is what I have.

6.0 shortblock
5.3 heads
MTI R1 cam
LS6 intake, injectors, and rails
Headers

Help me out please.....Thanks

Yes you should get a base tune to ensure the motor.

You can drive it without a tune until you have the funds to get it tuned. Just don't drive it too hard or you could damage the motor.

Can you? Yes. should you? No. You put all the money and time getting it together spend the 150 to get a tune that will keep the motor safe.

Default Tune It

If nothing else spring for a base tune, so that you can make sure all your fuel mapping is correct. I had a friend that did the same thing and ended up washing out his rings.

You can get a wide band O2 and find out what your a/f ratio is. Is it is good then you can drive it.

What PCM are you using? If you're using the one that came with the engine/ wiring harness, then it might be ok. Since you do have a cam, it would best to get a custom tune to get the idle, and part throttle in line. Make sure your fuel pressure is 58-60, the tank is vented properly, and the trans, and rear gear settings are close, it should be ok, but still...........it's best to have it done right, and it'll be trouble free. Unfortunately, a $150 tune isn't going to cut it.
