Default rich or lean

is there anyway to tell if my car is running rich or lean without buying a wideband a/f gauge, the dyno sheet that came with the car from when it got tuned says from 3000 rpm up to 6500 its anywhere from 12.1 to 12.5 thats supper rich if im not mistaken, and when the car is idling it smells like an old carburated car, and the tail pipes are black.

Dude, just buy a wideband if it worries you that much and yes that is rich for just motor. Check your plugs.

Check oxygen sensor volts, the closer to 0 volts = lean, the closer to 0.990 volts = rich
12.5 is the best "ideal" AFR for max power and long engine life at WOT
Your car may need a tune for idle and cruise, because smell is not normal even for a cammed car.
