Post Spark Advance at WOT Bolt-on Ls1

I'll start off with the details.
Car: 2002 Trans Am 5.7L
Mod: Longtube Headers, Under-dive Pulley, CIA , "Tune" , 160* stat
I went to my local track the other day and couldn't get my car pass 13.2 which I believed is pretty slow. I live by the beach to the DA is really low like 90 feet above sea level. So I took another look at the tune. Since I'm the one who tuned the PCM. I Started to look at my Timing advance around my WOT which is around .60 G/cyl - .74G/cyl. As of now I have it set 26-31 degree timing around that area. The reason i targeted my top end is due to the fact my take off feels alright for a stock ls1 but the top end is where I'm not feeling to much power.

My question to my fellow tuners is how much timing do you guys run at WOT?
Is my timing to high? (should i reduce?)
Or is my timing to low? (should i increase)

Thanks,
Ws6kid.

What is your AFR? Do you have a wideband? Set timing back stock and add 1-2 degrees and make a run. IF it picks up time add another degree and repeat. Keep doing that until it stops picking up. If it slows down take 1 out. Watch for KR.

Did you tune MAF and VE?

No Wide-band on the moment. And I'm on MAF.

First thing you need to do is get a W/B and find out what a/f is. Until you know what your air/fuel ratio is to much timing is not good.

Without a WB your just pissing in the wind. Get a WB then tune your VE and you MAF and try it again. I would pull some more timing out also, I highly doubt your motor wants or needs 31deg of timing.

Lol, I agree, but if we knew his mv we'd at least have an indication of where the fuel is at.

Ok I agree with everyone else that you should get a wb to verify your fueling at WOT.

Regardless though, your timing should be somewhere in the mid-high 20s. Higher timing down low, less timing at or near peak torque, then ramp up the timing as you near redline. In reality a timing curve should be the inverse of a torque curve. So take a look at how a torque curve looks on a bolt on car and just flip that to get some timing ramp rates.

Though you can never know what makes the best power without a dyno.
