The Guy in MY 99TA

I was just gunna get some basic ideas of tuning my car.(mods in sig) LS1 Edit is gunna be here tomorrow and I plan on going to a buddies house to get familiar with the software but I was wondering what all I should look at when I am tuning.

What is the stock timing usually at?
What should I try the first time?
What about fuel charts?
Should I just kinda plug and play?
Any does and don'ts?

I alway's work the L-term's to around 0- -4 first.Then start with timing.
