TQM/Tune question from Super Chevy Mag
In this months issue, they stated NOT to take out torgue management or you could wipe out your A4 tranny/bands. I know people that have taken TM out during tuning?
Does anyone know if this applies to higher stalls/aftermarkets?

I'd imagine what they're saying is true... w/out Torque Management you're putting ALL the power through the trans through a shift... Torque management reduces power through the shift to increase tranny life (that's why GM did it)
However most of us that are running modded cars to the point of needing tuning aren't too concerned w/getting 100,000 or even 50,000 miles out of a transmission...

As I posted in the lounge:
That's a good one. If you are that worried about saving your trans, don't do any mods and don't race it. In fact, just park it in your garage, sit in it and make funny engine noises with your mouth. Your tranny will last a LONG time.

A torque management that was left active, but
set smart, would be the best of both worlds.
I have found what I think is the reason why TM
is so hated. It's not just that the spark drops out
during a shift. If you had an instantaneous shift
you would not even notice it. With a minimum-
cycle-time shift, I've had it active and it's only
a "huh?" and overwith.
But with your stock PCM shift time settings the
shift time tries to be 0.3 seconds. That's a big-***
hole to fall into three times down the track. But if
you zero these times you can leave TM "live" and
it will not be as bad a hit for track performance while
being easier on the transmission.
My goal is to get to where I have TM active, but
only pull maybe 5-10 degrees of spark. Just take a
little stress off, not give it a bloody vacation.
Have to go study up on that one though.
