codes P0171 w/ P0174 what part or parts is maulfunctioning?
car is 99 TA w/ 120K miles
the man at autozone scanned my SES light and got these codes P0171 w/ P0174 P0300(owned this car since 01 and the only code I've ever had was the P0300) what part or parts is maulfunctioning?
first 2 weeks in June is emmisions inspection for me so I usalley do what I can like.
1.clean K&N air fliter
2.replace fuel fliter
3.clean MAS w/ MAS spray
4.check for vacunm leaks.
5.Seafoam top end then change oil.
6.Techolean fuel treatment
7.Lucas fuel treatment on clean cloth wipe out throttle body (usalley clean).
8.thoughtly clean Norris catch can.
9.spark plugs every other year.
observation I can do and have.
1.observe fuel preasure normale 58PSI slitely lower at idel 57PSI (I have a electrical FP guage inside car)
2.observe air/fuel ratio being dead on 14.7 during idel and part throttle.(I have a wide band)
Thanks

more codes
Hello Chuck: actualley 15 minutes before the scan there was a loose PCV tube which I fixed.few years ago I redid the vacumn tubes w/ 5/8" fuel line from pass. side head T-ed then into Dr side head then into PCV. Have'nt yet tryed the carb spary method.
as far as LTs leaking how is this detected? by hearing? dout. there leaking, over the years I have bottomed out a few times, using stock GM LT gaskets and at collectors Percys soft type metal gaskets. I'll check the head bolts for tightness.
a more detailed scan revelved more codes.
calc load @831RPM 2.0%
MAF .77 LB/m
MAP 12.1 "HG
ITA 109
02512 .445
02521 .165
additionale codes added to the current P0300, P0717 & P0174
C0550
C0896
Thanks Chuck for advice

Leak check>> Shoot some Seafoam into the intake, engine hot, and running.[Thru a vac line]. Watch for smoke leaks. I have also used a couple wet rags held over the tail pipes, to create back pressure. Helps the smoke to "find a way out"!
What little I know about C0550:
That code is an internal check on the EBCM (abs module). Basically if the code is cleared and returns the module needs replacement. There is nothing external to the module that will cause that code.
If you get both 0550, and 0896:
When both of these codes are detected (C0550 & C0896), they indicate an ABS/TCS shutdown due to a voltage drop below 9.7 volts at the ABS EBTCM (Electronic Brake & Traction Control Module).
Mite be time to go over ALL wiring connections, clean and di-electric them. Check and clean ALL the grounds.
If you can, do a drive with a scan tool that can data log... See what may come up....

Chuck checked for vacunm and exhast leaks found none.
I replaced the stock MAS w/ a Cardone
I really don't like to use cheap auto parts however
I was in a bind so I ended up purchasing the cardone MAS SES light dissapeared.
1st MAS lasted 50 miles then the same P0171-P0174-P0300 codes came back.
2nd MAS lasted 25 miles then the same P0171-P0174-P0300 codes came back.
3rd MAS lasted 15 miles then the same P0171-P0174-P0300 codes came back.
can't understend why
Thanks

Engine cold, shoot some carb cleaner around the intake and see if the idle changes. You may have bad intake gaskets.
How are the o2's? Are they switching like they should when you view the scanner?
#7
I think the man at autozone said the O2s where switching OK I'll confirm this on the next scan, (?would attaching his scanner while driving relieve more infor?)
I removed the driver side O2 and visualley inspected it, it was'nt completely covered in carbon just a lite dustie layer.
these cadone MAS can't be this crappie?
Thanks
