Default What kind of OBDII Cable for LS1/LM7?

I have a LM7 with PCM in a 37 Ford woodie. I would like to hook up my laptop to tune it myself. Can I buy any OBDII cable to make it work or will I need to buy a certain cable? I noticed HP Tuners has what looks like a converter that is in between the Computer and PCM. Do I have to get the cable and program from HP Tuners or someone similar or can it be any cable with another program? Thanks

HPTuners and EFILive each make an interface which translates between the OBD2/ALDL connector and the USB port on your laptop... they include software to read/write/log the PCM, each of their software only runs on their own interface;

you can't just use any cable;

you can download/tryout the software from HPTuners and EFILive to see which user interface you like;

what was the donor vehicle year/model for your PCM...?
