Default Thin plactic cover over PCM wire connectors

How important are the plastic covers over the connectors at the PCM that say "Do not over tighten" ...... Are they necessary?

the grey things? I usually keep them on if possible. sometimes wire routing doesnt allow it.
the over tightening warning is for the connector bolt itself

Mine got broken when the mechanics were searching for a broken wire it didn't have.
I really could see no real purpose for them, I guess I will leave them off.

THANKS!!!
