Default Retune needed for octane change?

So I had my car tuned a little while back and it was tuned to run on 87. (bolt ons) My question is will I need to get the car retuned for 91 or can I just put it in the next time I need to fill up. Noob, so be easy! haha and yes I know it should be running 91 to begin with.

You can put higher octane in there and wouldn't hurt, but without a retune for the new gas you're just wasting money.

You said the car was tune on 87, thus it performs best in its current state on 87 octane. Putting in 91+ octane is going to do virtually nothing for you but lighten your pockets more unless you retune.

Unless you alter the tune to take advantage of the engine's ability to accept more timing, you'll find little to no benefit. The improved octane can help a car that is detonating, but that's it. That's why all those "octane boosters" are a joke. One of the best mods you can do to a truck is to put in a 91+ octane tune because it's good for a decent amount of power. You will be spending more at the pump.
