Default ls1 tach question

Im doing a lsx swap and was wondering how a standard tach like the ones in the old muscle cars would if they could hook up to the ls1 because I have a nice monster tach with a shift light that I would like to use
thanks!

Default older tach

the LS1 PCM only senses 4 cylinders so as long as you can adjust the tach for 4 cylinder operation I see no reason why it wouldn't work. When I hooked up my Auto meter tach I had to cut one of the sensor wires in the back to convert it to 4 cylinder.

Default

Within HP Tuners and I assume EFI Live, you can adjust the tach output signal. Default is 4 cylinder, but the output can be 6 or 8 cylinder (or others) too if the tach itself isn't adjustable (think old or factory tach).
