Default Psi harness,no vss reading?

A guy brought a buggy to me,said the hot wire melted to the exhaust and shut the buggy off.since that happen it wouldn't shift he said,I've read all the posts on the 60's.i can't come up with a solution.he had extended the speed sensor wire and had done a poor job,I found a bad place in the "extension"...fixed all that, the engine and trans are out of a 02 trans am.my scanner shows 0 mph all the time.has all the probs of no vss signal, put it in od and it won't shift, manual shift to first and go to second,it shifts, try 3rd and it hits almost neutral.i unplugged the trans for safe mode, pulls out in 3rd fine.I'm just stumped on how to check the signal into the PCM,he had a spare out of another project and I plug it in and all the same issues,I checked the whole harness from the vss to PCM and no brakes or pinched spots, anyone have any ideas or how I can check it with hp tuners and not have to buy any credits, thanks
