Default E38 Revisions?

Are there different revisions of E38s out there? I have a harness from an 08 Silverado that I need an ECM for. I know I need an E38 but research has shown there are different PNs for them out there. Does it matter? I want to be sure it will work with my harness.

Anyone have any idea? I cannot find the differences. I found two different service part numbers.

I would like to pick one up soon. But I want some feedback so I am not limiting myself if one is better than another for my application.

I don't have the info but perhaps if you post in the HPTuners forum for GM Gen 4 V-8's someone can help you out.

E38's are not like the older ecm's where you can't flash them to anything you want. If you try to change the year or vehicle application they can easily be bricked. I would order an E38 for a 08 silverado, if you have the VIN where the harness came from I should be able to get you the part number for the E38 you'll need.

Thanks for the reply. I do not have the VIN for the harness. I do know it was an 08. Would an 07 ECM work? I found one of those. I know the service PN is different than the 08 though.

I did post in HPT but nothing back on it. I did search it but minimal info. And mostly about car ECMs.

On a standalone engine swap your TB, gas pedal, and ECM have to all match. The harness isnt really the issue IMO. Are all your parts off a 08 silverado? Where I see issues the most is when people get mismatched parts from salvage yards or just not knowingly mix up those parts.

Harness and pedal are both from Gen 4 trucks...no ECM yet. I know the cable is from an 08 Silverado. I think the pedal might be from an 07 truck. Need to check again. No ECM yet. TB is from an LS3 or LS7. I was under the impression these can be swapped without an issue. Maybe I am mistaken? the deeper I get into this project, the more confused I become.

Looks like all 07+ truck pedals are the same...at least till 11. So I am best getting the 07 or 08 ECM? But those are different. Will the LS3 TB work with those ECMs? I think the service PNs are the same for car and truck respective to year. But then do I need a specific OS to match them all? Then what MAF do I run? I assume I can run any Gen4 knock sensors, cam and crank sensors as well as MAP sensor.

I really appreciate your feedback and responses.
