Default 94 z28 pcm swap into 1995 T/A

I have a 1995 pontiac trans am with 2.73 rear auto trans and I want to swap out my gears for a 3.23 that I have on the side from a 94 camaro z28 auto as well as the pcm out of it. will the pcm swap work without issues or would it still need programing being it came from another car?

It will work. VIN will be wrong. Might be an issue if you have emission testing that needs the PCM VIN to match the vehicle. You could just put the original PCM in for testing.

Well I plugged it in and started the car but didnt drive it yet revs are where they should be but theres a ses light on. I dont have a code reader handy. Could it be because of the difference in VIN's? Anyway I put the old one back and started it and ses light went away

I can't imagine why. The enabled DTCs are identical between the 2 years. The wrong VIN wouldn't cause a CEL.

Ok good to know the vin is not the issue. Im gonna see if there are stickys in pulling the codes without a scan tool.

94-95s require a code reader.

Camaro and Transam are slightly different cars and the calibration are not exactly the same. That will be the most likely cause for the SES light

Im curious as in what slight difference in calibration there could be other than the performance transmission calibration button on my console. If thats all there is I can live with that. My next question is can I drive it like that without hurting anything other than my fans be always on? And thank you for all the replies everyone.

I need to compare the tunes from both cars to tell you.
Are your fans always on? If they turn on as soon as the engine starts then you have another problem not related to the tune

The performance trans tables are in both Camaro and TA files. They are just not used in the Camaros. I know of no differences in the Camaro and TA tunes. The only differences if both pcms are from auto cars would be the speedometer settings, the shift tables, and the converter lock up tables. Get the code read. Setting some codes will cause the fans to run all the time. Is there no one around you with Tunercat and a OBD1 cable that can just change your original PCM? They will need the OBD2 adapter that the 95 cars use.

94 the converter lock up was on or off with 1 solenoid

95 was the beginning of pulse width modulated lock up using 2 solenoids

You will need the 95 calibration adjusted for the gear swap

DTC 83 TCC PWM Solenoid Circuit Fault. Enabled on 95 calibrations, not enabled on 94 calibrations. That is the only DTC Code difference between the 2 years.
