Default Changing the VIN in pcm to pass OBDII test in swap vehicle?

I have been thinking about doing a semi daily driver/family car type build using an LS1/6 swap in a newer Lexus IS250/350. I know the "swap" is possible the only question I have is can I change the VIN in the LS pcm to match the VIN of the car I put the engine in, only to allow inspection. I do have annual OBDII inspections where I live and I am familiar with HPTuners. I do all my own tuning I just am not sure you can put just "any" vin you want in the PCM????

I can on some but I have to have the actual vehicle. I can change the VIN in the PCM or ECM on my bench harness.

I have a bench harness
can talk to the BCM as a stand alone with my Snapon scanner
But it comes up as "locked" when I use the Tech2.
It will read part # codes etc with my harness so I know its communicating
I can start a new thread so as not to dilute OPs intent

My engine and PCM were swapped over from a 00 Z/28, when i look in the computer there is no VIN listed at all. Did someone erase it? Was it maybe tuned that way? With there not being power to it for 18 months was it lost? Can the vin of the new car be added when i send out for a mail order tune? Thanks

The VIN is programmed into the PCM so it will not erase or reset even with the pcm being unhooked from power. The VIN can be deleted or changed so it is possible that is deleted but I doubt someone went through the trouble to delete it. What are you using to look for the VIN, HP Tuners, EFI Live, Tech II?

I have used a Mac Task Master...a Sears OBD2 live scan tool...and also one from Orielly's none of them pulled a VIN it was just blank.

I am not familiar with any of those but I doubt they will show you the VIN. I know my older scan tools wouldnt at least.

Yeah this may screw me over if I move to an area that requires emmissions. Fox mustang with ls motor tuned by hptuners.

Pre OBDII (95 older) cars will not have any issue as there is no scanning or emmisions test just visual inspection

Can a Tech II tool change the VIN? We just did a 98 to 99+ PCM swap in my Camaro. My car is being tuned tomorrow, but I also need it to pass Texas Emissions later this week.

LSXPOWERTUNING, After you change a vin, can it then be tuned VIA HPtuners?

This is only true in some places. While an OBDI car can't be tested through the coputer's diagnostic port, if they are not 25 years old in places like Houston and surrounding counties they have to be able to pass the sniff test.

Sorry for missing this, late is better than never. Yes you can but it cost you 2 credits no matter what the tune is even if you have unlimited.
