Default Tuners: Timing vs. MPH??

Is there any way to do this using any of the tuning softwares? What I'm saying is, is there a way to pull out timing based on mph, so you can take out some power at lower speeds like 1st gear?

You can set max torque by gear in HPTuners, and
this works by pulling back timing, so I guess it's
kinda what you want. You'd have to play with the
torque limit value because it's a funny internal
computation, but this might do it for you.

How does the software know what gear a six speed car is in? Does it look at RPM vs MPH for whatever final drive ratio you have?

Dunno about that, but there are 1-6 gear rows
in the table and it's indexed by RPM, so you
should be able to work back to road speed if you
wanted, or by gear, or whatever. I'm sure it knows
what gear you're in, somehow.
