so I just got a Vgate elm327 Bluetooth scanner and downloaded the android app "Torque".

It will connect via Bluetooth but cannot connect to the ecm of my 1999 trans am.
I've tried the auto scan for protocol as well as the SAE J1850 jpw.

Anyone ever have this issue? I got it linked to my 2013 dodge dart immediately but been trying the TA nonstop and always said it can't talk to the ECM.

Do any of the lights come on when you plug in the elm 327 device? You may have a blown fuse. Did you turn on the phone Bluetooth and pair with the device?

i take it you have a android phone, have you tired starting the car and trying to get it to pair. dodges are bad with any aftermarket hard/software, good luck

I've had two of them die for no reason, maybe try another?
at $12 they're pretty much disposable.

Yeah it can sync through Bluetooth but not to the ECM. It ONLY works on my dart not my Trans Am.

I've talked to the company and they have sent out a new one for free. Ill update if this one works or not.

I was just curious of theres a certain protocol that's is used for the ls1 or possibly when I had my mail order tune he locked my ecm?

Locking the PCM file has nothing to do with the ability to read the data stream from the PCM.

I found my issue to be related to my android phone. The elm327 would work on my Sons car with my android phone and my Son used his phone with my elm327 and it worked on his car and my vehicle but my phone would not connect to my vehicle. I uninstalled and reinstalled Torque and it works fine now.

*bump an dead thread. i have the same issue where it works on my JK Wrangler but wont connect to my 01 camaro via the vgate.

Likewise.. I'm going to try to uninstall / reinstall and see if that helps. I have tried two different Android devices, both of them successfully pair with the ELM 327 but both get an error when trying to talk to the ECU.
