Check to see if the clutch is still making contact with the cruise control switch. Its the switch that deactivates cruise control when the clutch is pushed in.

There's a little push button that should be held in by the clutch pedal arm, when you push in the clutch it lets out on the push button to turn off the cruise control so the engine don't rev up. If your switch is not held in while the pedal is up it will think your clutch is pushed in all the time and CC will not engage,so all you need to do is adjust it so that it is holding the button in. (You will need to stand on your head once again) I did without my cruise for years and now that its fixed I wish I would have fixed it sooner.
