Default question on failing a MAF for tuning

I am trying to tune my C5. When I try to fail the MAF via HPtuners....it sends the car into so "low power mode" and triggers the ABS lights and the engine idles at like 4K rpms. Its ridiculous. I cant drive it like that.

How can bypass this issue? I need it to drive in SD mode so I can get a scan for tuning the VE table.

did you try unplugging the sensor instead , that will also fail the maf.

you didn't say what you have for mods but lets just say you have a cam , its not going to want to run to swell if its still on a stock ve table because its not prepared to run anything but a stock setup , this is why you do the ve tune so it is accurate enough to run the engine without any data about intake volume from the maf sensor.

sorry, it is the corvette in my sig. it had a professional tune when it had all the mods except the heads and injectors. I tuned for the injectors and it does run well....just needs a little more fuel for the extra air from the new heads.

It had the 5 wire harness connector on the maf...the IAT sensor is part of the harness as well. I was told you cant physically unplug them because of this for tuning purposes.

the current tune should still allow it to run on VE table in SD only. It will start up but goes into this "mode" where the idle hangs at 4K just seconds after starting with the MAF disabled.

How can anyone tell if you are doing it correctly?

Anyone that has tuned a c5 or c6 may have seen this issue....I was able to tune my Camaro pretty easily. So I know mostly what I am doing is correct.

maybe is has something to do with an electronic TB on the vette vs. the cable on the Camaro. I dunno....that's why I am posting in here.

Did you set he DTC's correctly? What values are you putting into the maf tables to fail it?

I simply set the maf to fail at 0hz. I do not delete the code but will get a DTC for p0103.
Ive read that the car needs to see a MAF failure in order to effectively go into SD mode. If that is incorrect....I could try to delete the p0103 and see if that fixes the issue.

I don't have issues on my C5 failing the MAF.
0hz MAF Fail high
P0101-3 set to 0 Mil on First Error.
Try that. Maybe leaving it on fail on second error lets it have the other REP error first.

Might also look at the Calc Airmass table. Maybe someone zeroed it?

RonSSNova is exactly right - be sure to set P0101-P0103 to "0 Mil on First Error".

Also, with the MAF failed the PCM will use the low octane spark advance table. You may therefore want to copy the high octane table to the low octane table, at least for tuning purposes.

Double check is to "zero out" the MAF table.

set maf fail frequency to 0. Set the maf DTC's to mil on first error.
