A scanner can only scan and not change parameters

EFILive scantool can edit the VIN in the PCM...

but as said, you need the tunetool to change idle speed and fan temps (and anything else).

EFI live has abandoned the 411 pcm as far as I know, whereas HP Tuners is still making updates. I've been happy with my EFI live, used it for several years, but if I was choosing now, I'd go HP.

What is the 411 pcm? Is that a particular model of pcm?

It's the Service # 12200411 PCM used on a lot of 01 and 02 GM vehicles and also 03 Vettes.

I've use both and for me hptuner is nice to have a 4l80e convertor stay locked when off the gas coasting since as far as I know efi live doesn't have that. I'm use to efi live though. I have hptuner tune in there right now cause my tuner likes hptuner.

Very very popular computer in that time frame, came in lots of vehicles, good for swaps too imo.

That is the same pcm I have in my vehicle. It came out of a 02 2500 HD Silverado. So if I understand you guys correctly EFI Live has dropped support for this particular PCM?

We are a dealer for EFI Live. Its not on the list yet on the website but I think its going on the list next. According to them there will not be any further updates in the software for that pcm since its over 10 years old now.

Dropping support doesn't mean it won't work on it any more, just that if you have a problem with their product working on it or want something added you probably won't get any help from them.

EFILive still supports the 0411 (it's not on their EOL list)... they will still fix bugs, they just won't add any missing tables.

Some of the missing tables for some of the OS's are covered by user defined calibration extensions (cax), e.g for 12212156 we have some of the missing tables via cax, such as LC, injector small pulse, dynair hysteresis, M1 2->1 shift, various dynamic fueling (port wall wetting/evaporation) tables, and others.

I'm in the process of preparing to buy either Efilive or HPtuners so this thread and the price has kind of leaned me toward hpt. Except I was told EFIlive has a timing per psi setting that hpt doesn't have. Is that really a big issue to any of the hpt guys? Seems like that would be a big deal

I'm interested in that as well. I'm putting together a twin turbo 6 liter. Timing based on boost pressure would be a useful tool.

You mean the boost timing table in the COS (custom operating system)...?

Will either of these be able to save multiple tunes to switch from for a car that sometimes uses Nitrous?

Does HPT have any perimeters to work with nitrous?

EFILive: you can flash tunes from an SD card (plugged into the handheld interface).

If you use a COS, then you only need one tune since the COS reads a switch input (via one of the pins on the PCM connector) and switches to nitrous tables (see "NO2 Monitor" in the above pic).

ANY speed density operating system will modify timing based on vacuum/boost. This has nothing to do with HPT or EFIlive, but rather tuning in general. Whatever your choice, this will not be the dealbreaker for any of them. The same basic premise applies if you are running a MAF, but the specifics vary. This is almost like the difference between adding 2+2 on a Casio or Toshiba calculator.

You simply need the timing table reference range to extend sufficiently into boost.
