Default Car stays running without keys in ignition - Help

Start car, runs smooth, all lights turn on, radio etc.
When I turn the keys to off position in the ignition car remains running, all lights stay on, radio etc. I am able to remove keys from ignition, everything stays running.

Continued to try turning car off for about 20 min. Engine finally turned off. All lights and radio stay on. Cannot get to turn off without disconnecting battery.

Had battery tested last night, passed.

I'd start with ignition relay then ignition switch.

Anyway to test if it is the ignition relay? Or should I just purchase a new one and replace?

Swap it with a fan relay.

Put a new ignition relay in. Didn't fix the problem car still starts fine, but will not shut off.

Had to remove the fuel pump relay to stop engine.

Anything else to diagnose?

Does it stop when you remove the ing relay? If it doesn't then you just ruled out the relay and the ignion switch.
Next I'd pulling fuses to see which ones will stop it. That should give youa good Iidea where to look in the harness.

@allmotor1 ya it really baffles me. Ive had the car for 10 yrs, no problems. No aftermarket add ons. This started last night.

@Pacer Racer I replaced the ignition relay with a new relay. Problem persisted. I had to remove the fuel pump relay to kill the engine.

Is there an easy way to diagnose the ignition switch? How hard is it to replace (located under the dash?)

Thanks guys

Pacer_Racer made a good point - if the engine is running and pulling out the ignition relay does not kill the engine, then the problem is not the ignition switch. I suggest you try that.

Hey guys,

Car running, pulling the ignition relay immediately kills the engine.
This would mean that the ignition switch under the dash is bad, correct?

Is this an easy replacement? Can anyone supply me with detailed instructions or a possible video.

Thanks guys!
Think we tracked down the issue, finders crossed!
