Question on VIN changing in a PCM during a swap
I was planning an LS swap in a non GM vehicle. I'd like it to pass the OBD2 inspection. For example, if I swapped a 5.3L LS engine into a 2006 Mustang, can I have the LS PCM programmed with the Mustangs VIN #, or will this confuse the PCM somehow? I know here in NY the tester reads the VIN through the PCM, and will flag the test in DMVs system if the VIN does not match the vehicle. Don't want to cause any unnecessary headaches for the inspector.

TunerCat and EFI Live allows you do this as long as it follows the standard format. This means you can't put the old I think its pre 89 vins in them. I've done several for RX7 and S13 / S14 swaps in NY

I might be hitting you up soon on some tuning for my Formula. Its being a real PITA to get right. Whoever had this car before me had a tuner who had no clue what they were doing.

Im more talking about ECM's from other manufacturers. Alot of the computers Ive dealt with on older vehicles dont report VIN numbers. I believe youre right on GM ECU's.
