Default Ecu swap from 98 to what?

Hey guys,

I have a 98 SS with all the mods and the tuning is horrible.. I'm reading that I need a faster 411 ECU out a 99.... I'm seeing ECU's from 2000 and 2001 Firebird and Corvette on Ebay... What years of ECU's can be swapped into my 98 so I can finally have it tuned properly? Also what other issues will i have when doing so? Will any ECU that ends in 411 be OK?

Myron

The true service number for a "411" PCM is 12200411
It came in a lot of 2001 and 2002 vehicles.
In you want the fuel gauge to work you'll need the PWM output turned on.

Don't believe everything you read. Unless you have some really extreme mods, 98 pcms are completely tune-able.

I think the 2/10 of a second improvement in the 1/4 mile with no other changes made it worth the less then $100 cost to do it.

The tuned changed, no way to do a fair comparison from a 98 pcm top a 99+ since the tune is different. You wont gain any hp going to a 411 pcm from a 98.

We're talking both being stock tunes, of course they aren't identical but are factory stock. You don't always need a HP increase to run a faster quarter mile. Better engine control can help. How many times do you see 98 PCM's slam against the rev limiter before shifting? You no longer see it with a 411.

The two computers are pinned differently and not directly interchangeable. So you would have wiring involved and like the guy above stated you are basically wasting your time and money and looking into a headache.
