Default Swapping over to speed density???

I have a buddy who has a 350 tpi engine and he wants to put a cone air filter on it and it says that it needs to be changed over to speed density. what does that mean? Thanks for the help.

search the PCM forum.

and im almost 99% positive that a cone air filter does not require the switch over to SD.

if he still has the MAF then no....speed density is only if you remove the MAF and air filters are upstream from MAFs (have no affect on the MAF)

Switching to speed-density means everything
you change, affects A/F tune. MAF systems
first-order do not care about what you hang
in front or in back, they report it true as long
as there are no bypass paths. If he wanted
to ditch the MAF and put on a cone filter then
there would be no choise but to fall back to
SD tune, but this is likely a poor choice.

Thanks guys, I'll just tell him to keep the mafs and put the filter on in front of it someplace. The Jegs mag he got it out of said it mounted directly to the throttle body which would be the reason for swapping over to SD. Thanks for the help.
