Default Switching to e85 on my build worth it?

Just curious as to whether it would be worth the flash to do e85 on my current setup... Currently tuned on 91, but looking to do 55lb injectors and run "the corn."

Made about 425/405 with the current setup and injectors were at their limits...

My 5.3L heads are running 2.055- 1.575 valves in them.

Sooo, would I see any real benefits, does the cost justify the gains?

Thanks!

Do you have the compression or boost to require E85?

Compression should be right around 11.1:1

If you are having to keep the timing low to avoid KR, the E85 will be a benefit.
It's worth the experiment.

I briefly ran my car on E85, and was able to go from 27 degrees timing on 93 to 31 on E85, and the power difference was noticeable. If you can't increase the timing to make more power, then it's not worth it IMO

This was taken from the app known as "Torque," I had accidentally cleared the log before I took this, which sadly was not a full WOT pull, just a few stabs and the reading of 20.5 is from coasting into my driveway, so ignore the yellow numbers.

I'll try to get a better diagram setup so I can log it better, but it's a point of reference at least lol

So I guess timing is about 41* at WOT... Is it just me or is that pretty damn high? lol

Oh geez that's way to high lol. I'm willing bet your setup likes about 30-32 max

Yeah, that is what I am thinking. I know that 41-42 would be prime for a carbed setup or an LT1 trying to avoid KR lol

Well, if we are correct in assuming that 30-32 would be best and the digits/results reflect that on an e10 blend... Would it be far fetched to assume that I could see a fair gain by flashing to e85?

You don't know where your current timing is at?

I got to thinking that it might be showing part-throttle timing as 41-42... So I ran a graph plotter on Torque to see the timing, looks like it about 27 at WOT.

Ok now we are getting somewhere. If you are in fact at 27 degrees (which would be very common on your setup) then I'm willing to bet it will take at least 30 degrees with no knock on E85...and being that these heads love timing from what I've seen with my own personal experience, you will in fact most likely make more power. If I had to guess I'd say maybe 25 hp or so with the timing and octane bump

Yeah lol my bad for the posts earlier, I was driving home after a long day of work and class... It hit me like "why in the hell did I use a dial graph?!"

Took me some time to gather my marbles!!

Now that I do not daily the car anymore, I might bite the bullet and go for it.
