Default Best and Least Expensive Tuner for Bolt Ons

What is the least expensive and best tuner to purchase for basic bolt ons?

I.E. - AIR/EGR Delete, 85MM Maf installation, etc.

Just buy the tuner and install software on computer, then plug and play?

HP Tuners Std would be the cheapest that will permanently disable codes. Not exactly plug and play. You have to learn how to use it. AFAIK there are no hand helds that permanently disable codes.

Buy HPT and learn or pay someone to do it.

It appears the Pro is well worth the extra money. I just need to do some research and learn all terminology and ins and outs. Any stickies on learning this stuff from the base up?

If that's all you have done get a mail order tune. Ship it to Frost or someone like that and have them flash it. I think it's like 150 bucks.

At this point, unless you are going to learn how to tune and start modding it doesn't make much sense, IMO, to buy HPT just to do that.

OP, it wouldn't hurt to contact Mike Norris in Indy. He could get you in for a dyno tune or send you a mail order tune. At the very least he could help walk you through some of the stuff he offers and you say no. He's local and a great tuner/vender on here so that's one option for you.

He dyno tuned my bolt-on LS1 and I won't be going to anyone else for my car.

I agree with LilJayV10 tho if that's all your mods mail order is the way to go.

Normally best and least expensive don't go hand in hand. Least would be to get a mail order tune. Best would be to buy HPTuners Pro and take a course on tuning. That way you can do whatever you want, whenever you make changes.

We could do a mail order tune but with the 85mm maf especially and with any mail order tune you would still want to get your wide open throttle fueling checked in person.
You could buy HPT stand and a LC2 and use serial out to connect the widband to HPT. If you both of those we could tune through email as another option. Several options depending on your budget and how much time you want to commit to learning HPT.
