Default V6 to V8 PCM

Currently I am converting my 2002 V6 Y87 Performance package firebird into a WS6 Trans-am.

My question is, can I use my old PCM? An is there a way to install all of the V8 information or do I have to buy a whole new V8 PCM? If there is a way to install it how would i go about doing such things? Thanks in advance!

Are the last 3 digits of your PCM part number on it 411? If they are, your good to go.

Thanks, I'll have to pull the gray covers off of it to see what the numbers are. When you say good to go, what do you mean by that?

Means that you can tune that ECU to run your V8, by loading the correct tune for the LS1. You will still need a tune, but you can use your hardware.

I checked it today. it ends in 385. but it says blue, not sure if that makes a difference, the blue part I mean or if that's just referring to the connector color.

You will need to get a 09354896 or 12200411 PCM that use blue/red connectors. Your V6 PCM won't work.

Is there any difference between those two pcms? I am building an LS engine I currently have a 5.3 LS block that I am going to bore out to a 5.7 engine so I am not sure if those part numbers on those pcms make a difference. I appreciate all the advice an help!

09354896 was used in 99-00, 12200411 was 01-02 and a few 03. Some think the 0411 is better for some reason but I can see no discernible difference in the two. The OS you load in either of them will make more difference than either box.

Well Im looking at two different options. Do I buy a used ebay pcm with the last three of 411 from flashmasters and have them flash it for me? 89 bucks or do i buy a remanufactured one with no flash from autozone for 200 bucks which would be practically brand new, but then I'd still have to get it flashed and I wouldn't know who could do that around here.

I got two 0411 ecu's on ebay for $10 each. (it's good to have a back up, especially when I have no idea what I am doing)

I can't help if you can flash a v8 to your current tune, but one of the ecu's I have is a v6, just wire it as described for that flash and it will work. The ecu I am using now came from an express van with single coil fire (or something, never looked into it). Well it wouldn't run on my ls1 until I got a camaro tune from the repository.

The benefit of having an 0411 ecu is it's popular so info and advice is easier to come by. That alone might be worth the $100 for a new ecu...
