Default opinions please, on new wideband

i need a new wideband.

I'm looking at the ngk afrm gen2 and the aem 30-4110

I like the 9-16 gasoline resolution capability of the ngk

but Ive had good, easy results from the older aem using the 4.2 sensor.

I tune my own cars, on mostly pump gasoline. I may play with ethanol in the next few years. I'm turbo and n/a if that matters.

I suppose my question is:

Is the NTK "production grade" (not the lab grade one) sensor better that the bosch 4.9 for a hobbyist-level tuner like myself?

Thanks

Doug

Have you looked at the Ballenger afr500? I went with that and the upgrade NTK sensor on my last 416ci. From what I read I wouldnt buy the new version NTK wideband unit, the Ballenger unit is supposed to be the original NTK Powerdex AFX.

I've used the AEM wideband on many cars, they work great for the price. I have gone through lots of aem sensors. I guess I was lucky with the Ballenger until I sold the Truck, did a couple of free air calibrations and the afr readings were seemingly great.

oh huh I have only read good things about the new ntk. supposed to be a middle ground between the afr500 and the aem/innovate/etc stuff that uses the bosch lsu sensor and chipset.

i'll have to read around some more, see if the afr500 is a worthy investment for someone at my level

thanks for your input.

I'm using the AFR500 with the $150 NTK sensor and have no complaints. I started teaching myself to tune in 2014 and this is the first setup I've bought or even used so I have nothing to compare it to. It's been working like it's supposed to since day one, works great with hptuners.

Innovate LC-2 with a bosch 4.9 has worked just fine for me(used the 4.2 as well). I can replace an O2 sensor three times before I get to the NTK prices. For what I use them, they are just fine.

I have 3 of the NTK AFX. Well, one is actually the Ballenger unit.
One in my Vette 4 years now, works perfect still.
One in the Nova.

And one I use for buddies cars. Sort of a portable unit.

The AEM BTW always gives a noisy output in HPT. Not sure why.

Another nice option is the Zietronix ZT2/3.We use them at the shop. Although we do seem to lose sensors from time to time. They use the typical Bosch sensor.

A final option. Look into Daytona Sensors. That's what is on our dyno. We never lose the sensor. I'm going to figure out how to get it to input to HPT and see how it reads.

ok i'm getting ready to put my turbo truck back on the road so i'm bringing this back with some quick questions abut the afr500v2 if anyone can answer before I call ballenger monday

i'm going with the ntk calibration grade sensor

but i'm curious about what I should spec my controller to be set up for.

should I have it factory set for gasoline or make the jump to tuning in lambda now?

I plan on trying some ethanol down the road aways, so should I oreder it factory set for narrow or wide range?

last, can these settings be changed by the user? ballenger?

thanks!

You can switch them around yourself. I like looking at afr, I don't think I'll ever get my head around looking at lambda. In not sure if any disadvantage of going wide range, if resolution is the same then why not. Maybe call them.

yeah i'm gonna wait and call them. I'm just curious if the resolution is better with the narrow range.

thanks bro

called em up, good folks. Gonna forgo the wide range on my initial set up, as it does lose resolution. It takes the same data points and "stretches" them.

also gonna make the jump to lambda.

thanks for all the input everyone!
