What happens w/ Locked PCM
What happens when you try and read or write to a locked PCM with HPTuners??? Mine is lockes by Ed Wright and just wondering if it just give you an error or will crash the PCM. Oh details would be nice if you have them.

It won't even allow you to get that far. If the PCM is "locked", other software programs including ours and GM's will not be granted access to the PCM's data for read or write.
You won't damage the PCM by trying to read or write it if it is locked.

OK little update, well HPTs software was able to read the tune fine and under status it states its unlocked. So I assume it will write it fine if it was able to read it, right? I guess Ed even didn't lock it or the software just goes about doing things a little different.

There is locked, and there is scrambled.. Make sure what you're changing is really doing what you want It'd be best to flash a KNOWN *COMPLETE* bin back to the PCM to start with - ie. dealer flash or other package that writes the OS *and* calibration.

extremely very good advice, although i would hope no-one out there is changing the OS and then leaving the ID's the same.
Normal dealer flash doesn't write the OS on a 99+

Well a little update....I have read and wrote to the PCM a number of occasions with no isse. All values read in look fine, so no scrambling. Thank god because it saved me a ton of time and work. My tune was for SLPs 218/222 and now I have a 224/228. After I made some offsets for injectors and stuff she runs great and will need very little to tune it for the new cam.
