Default Surges bad in Park...Idles great in gear...?

Like it says. I start the car and it surges bad. From 500 to 1500 RPM. I put it in gear and it idles great around 900 to 950 RPM. Is this something that tuning can fix. I'm taking it to RPM in Dallas next Tuesday for tuning. They say that Chris is the one of the best around at tuning big cam cars w/ an A4.

Tuning should fix that. Does it do it always or only when it is cold

There is more load on the car in gear so generally once it finds it's idle it will be smoother in gear. Tuning will help a great deal with a cam that big in an A4.

I'm working on that issue right now with my car, although my swings were much smaller.

Even though my hot idle was fine (both in and out of gear), my cold closed loop idle tends to surge. I've opened the TB blade a bit and that brought my IAC's down and that has helped. I'm still experimenting with tweaking the VE at 800 rpm (and at 1200 rpm to a lesser degree) to see if that helps. After that I may experiment with the Idle Air tables at lower temps, as I have increased them a bit at the higher tempature range per NoGo's suggestions on idle tuning.

Adjust your TB blade per the instructions I posted on here...(search). It should help a lot.
