I don't think they're worth the money new... but if you can find a used one could be a decent investment if you don't want to have a scanner hooked to your car

By the time I look over at my HP Tuners display my knock retard is long gone. It's amazing how fast it appears and disappears, and how much of an impact KR can have on performance. It's better to just log it and view it later.

My understanding of the knock sensors is, you need
to have the knock sensor filter chip (or whatever they
are using) all tweaked up to the engine's signature
acoustics, and have the blanking right, or it's just
a big false echo mess. So if this were a proper gauge
I think it would be very engine specific.

I think that some of the guys at the track, the non computerized ones, are runnin knock sensors wired to a light just to let them know to back of before they turn their pistons into something that looks like a failed attempt at pottery. These guys don't have a PCM pulling timing (as little as it may be) for them. Haven't heard anything about how well they work though.

I use a ls1 scanmaster just so I don't have to drag the lap top around all the time.It works well as it recordes leanest o2 readings and how much kr if any when you go wot.
Kind of handy to verify gas quality and such .Also works nice at the track when set to coolant temp for a accurate gauge for consitent results.
