While flashing my PCM, my computer battery died. You guessed it fryed the pcm. I can get a repalcement pcm reflashed with vin and stock file. Will my edit cable work or do I have to send it in to have it set up for the new pcm ?

no, edit is locked to the actual pcm id, not just the vin

try to find somebody with hptuners to try to recover it, i've used mine to recover somebody elses pcm in a similar situation

As log as the VIN stays the same you'll be fine. Good luck!

anybody with HP tuners in the Metro Detroit Area (Rochester, MI)?

Btw, the new PCM would be reflashed with the old vin #.

Totally false, been there tried it, doesn't work. Edit uses more than just the vin of the car, there is another serial number unique to the pcm that it uses. If they are not both the same you are out of luck. Best thing to do is get YOUR PCM reflashed at the dealer. Only thing is you need to have the car towed there to do it, they can't just flash the PCM out of the car.

Sounds like I am out of $325 at least then to get back up and running...Sounds like I'm better of buying HP tuners. Can anyone confirm that hp tuners can recover the files in my pcm?

Our product will work, but you'll need a stock file to recover it with (we can help you out there). then you can reload your edited tune - if you dare. Have you tried a dealer? Tech2 can recover it as well.

As far as a dealer re-flash, I would call first...some dealerships have an off vehicle machine that will reflash it back to factory spec without needing the vehicle there. The only thing is, you get the latest GM program which in some cases will make aftermarket tuners like Hypertech not work. There is a way....no need to buy a new pcm.

Earl, give me a call (734-645-6097) and I can give you the name/number of a corvette racer with a tech 2. He should be about 30 min from where you live.

Thanks to all the guys that responded with offers to help. I ended up shipping my pcm to Carputing to see if they could restore my pcm. Fortunately they were able to get it working and even re-install the tuning file that I sent to them. I should have it back by tomorrow. I have to give them credit - 1 day repair turnaround is pretty damn good. Gordy, I will still probably give you a call to get your guy's name in case this ever happens again. I will definitely keep a power inverter in the car in the future for reflashes and scanning on the road.
